A curiosity of the world and its mystical unfolding drew me to spend the good part of a decade travelling the world, exploring the practices of yoga, meditation and self enquiry.

Originally from a small coastal town on Australia’s mid north coast, I was instilled with a great love of the ocean, mother nature and the natural world.

Having spent a gap year abroad, travelling around South America, Asia and Europe I returned to Sydney to study Journalism at The University of Technology, Sydney.

After a few years of living a busy and fast paced life, working full time in the media and publishing industry, I started to feel a little tangled up and disconnected to the world around me.   After some time juggling a full time job in media and teaching yoga on the side, I made a career shift to leave the corporate world and share my love of yoga and meditation full time.

10 years down the track and never having looked back, I’ve dedicated my professional and personal life to practicing, studying, enjoying and teaching yoga in both Australia and overseas.

My travels have taken me to spend some months in the South of India in an Indian Ashram, on long retreats with my teacher the foothills of Goa and diving deep into Auyrvedic medicine and healing, receiving Panchakarma at Vaidagrama, Auyrvedic healing village.

Following my time in India, in 2017 the adventure took me to Tanzania with Communities Assist where I spent two weeks volunteering at Rainbow Rainbow Ridge Orphanage, where we taught yoga and meditation to children and their communities.

I have deep gratitude for all of these experiences as well as for my teachers Clive Sheridan, Louisa Sear and Lucy Roberts who have shared and instilled in me their wisdom, devotion and love for the traditional teachings of Yoga – whether rooted in Hindu, Bhakti or Tantric traditions.

Since returning home from these travels, my passion to share the tools of yoga for seva (service) and yoga for therapy has become a major influence in my personal practice, and therefore teachings here in Australia.

For the last five years I’ve worked as a volunteer teacher and Program Manager for A Sound Life charity – a Sydney based not for profit that brings music, yoga and meditation as free services to underprivileged and vulnerable communities, delivering yoga and meditation programs to women in refuge, people in drug and alcohol rehabilitation, children and adults with disabilities, and hospitalised teenagers living with mental health and eating disorders.

I’ve been incredibly lucky to have also been a part of the training team at ASL, working with Nikola Ellis, training yoga teachers in teaching adapted methods of yoga and mindfulness for disabilities.

It’s largely through this work with ASL that I’m reminded to relish the richness of this unique human experience. To touch all moments – the beautiful and the challenging and to share this love with all that we come across.

I’m so grateful to be able to share my experiences and learnings on this path so far.

I hope that if one day we meet, I can assist you in exploring how these powerful practices can support you on your own journey.

With love, Sophie ❍
